Who can be a philanthropist?
Anyone. Whether you are providing a major gift of $500,000, raising $5 dollar pledges for a cause that is close to your heart, or working endless volunteer hours to make your community a better place, you are a philanthropist and can be nominated for a “National Philanthropy Day” award!

Making a Nomination Builds Relationships
If you are a charity or non-profit organization let that special someone or organization know how important they are to you by nominating them for a “National Philanthropy Day” award. AFP Edmonton & Area wants to recognize every nominee that has made a difference in the community by building a social safety net and adding to the quality of life for Edmonton and surrounding area. By advancing the quality of nominations through coaching and encouragement from community groups, we saw our nominations grow from 28 nominees in 2005 to a record 51 nominations in 2009. National Philanthropy Day is recognized by many charities as an important and cost-effective stewardship tool to consider as they build relationships with their supporters.

Every Nomination is Celebrated
Prior to National Philanthropy Day, the AFP Edmonton & Area Chapter will host a host a private pre-celebration event for those nominated and their nominees. The date and location will be posted here once it is confirmed. The event provides nominees and their nominators with another chance to connect and build relationships in an elegant setting.

All nominees make lasting and valued contributions to the Capital Region, whether they are involved in supporting healthcare, education, social services, the arts or the environment. There is tremendous value to getting to know your donors, volunteers and supporters through the nominations process.
