AFP Edmonton & Area Chapter Luncheon Series

Join us monthly for a comprehensive series of educational and training presentations from recognized leaders who share their knowledge and skills on critical issues, sensitive topics and leading edge information you won’t want to miss.  Our monthly Luncheon Series provides you with an opportunity to share a meal, meet colleagues and friends and expand your own personal network in fund development in our city and region.  Our guest speakers are from the corporate, professional and nonprofit sectors.

AFP Edmonton & Area Chapter luncheons take place at The Petroleum Club, located at 11130-108 Street, on the first Thursday of the month. The regular meeting is replaced by the National Philanthropy Day luncheon in the month of November. Luncheons do not occur in the months of January, July & August.  The cost is $30 for AFP Members and $40 for Non-AFP Members and includes a hot buffet lunch and beverages.

Twice a year, two half-day presentations offer an opportunity for professional fundraisers to learn best practices in fundraising and explore key topics providing an in-depth interactive workshop. Cost of the workshops will be posted along with the luncheons.

Beyond The Ask
You know your organization is worthy of a donor's support, but how do you break through the filter prospective donors put up as a result of the hundreds of compelling appeals they receive every year?  The key lies in the relationship closest to you; starting with your biggest ambassadors, like your Board.

Join relationship marketing expert, passionate volunteer, and Principal of Incite Marketing, Jared Smith, for a fun and interactive session discussing the power of relationships, networks and influencers.  Learn a few tricks to help others better understand and get excited about your role as a fund development professional.  After all, it's about more than The Ask, it's about connecting the dots and building the networks you need to propel your organization's mission forward.  And bring your Board Members - this is a session that will help them visualize how they can help you and your organization to succeed (beyond the Ask)!

Jared Smith's expertise in communications, PR, business development, and relationship marketing has led to his success as partner and co-founder of Incite - an Alberta-based marketing strategy firm.  With over 30 employees, Incite has been recognized as one of Canada's Fastest-Growing Companies in PROFIT magazine's 20th annual Next 100 list and named one of the fast-growing companies in the Top 25 Under $20 Million category of Alberta Venture's Fast 50 List for 2008.

Become Professionally Accredited by receiving the CFRE Designation
The CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) designation is a fantastic way to demonstrate your dedication to your career, open up new doors in the field, and enhance your credibility.  In the fundraising profession, CFRE designations are considered a major differentiating asset when applying for senior positions, and annual compensation surveys indicate that CFRE professionals command a higher salary in the marketplace.

To apply for the CFRE, you must have five years of professional fundraising experience, documentation of professional performance and continuing education, and service through community organizations.  Earning the CFRE after a successful application requires passing a test designed to test general knowledge of a broad base of fundraising concepts.

If you are planning on writing your CFRE test in the near future, but just haven't found the time to study perhaps you need to join a CFRE study group. All interested individuals should contact Adam Zawadiuk at adam.zawadiuk@diabetes.ca for more information.
